Fairey Barracuda Mk.V

12/10/2002. Remarks by Chris Pinn: "Fairey Barrracuda PM 940. It was originally built as a Mk.III, but was chosen as one of the airframes to be converted to Mk.V prototype status. The Mk.V was fitted with a Rolls-Royce Griffon 37 which had considerably more torque than the Merlin 30 or 32 fitted to earlier marks of Barracuda. This in turn necessitated an increase in fin area. The best fin shape was not found immediately and this photo shows a version which did not make it into production."
