Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This Hellcat is shown in the markings of Fighting Squadron Four (VF-4) which was established on May 1, 1943 at NAS Alameda, California, located on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay adjacent to Oakland. The squadron was redesignated VF-1 on July 15, 1943 when it was assigned to Carrier Air Group One (CVG-1)." |
