This was the first of two XF8F-1 prototypes, first flown by Robert "Bob" Hall on August 31, 1944. Note the absence of the dorsal fin added to later aircraft. This aircraft was lost in a crash at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, on March 18, 1945. The pilot was killed. |
