Johan Visschedijk: "The one-of-a-kind single-seat sport Model C Sunbird I was again an original James Wickham design and it was the first low-wing type built by the designer. The all-metal construction aircraft was first flown in June 1975 and was fitted with a 55 hp VW1600 engine. After the Sunbird I had been purchased by a new owner, this engine was replaced by a more powerful VW engine. An improved variant, designated Model D by the designer, was not built, but further development of the Sunbird I resulted in the Model E Sunbird II..
