Text from Aviation Week: "Boeing engineers used old photographs as a substitute for unobtainable detail drawings of the B & W seaplane to build a flying replica of that first Boeing aircraft for the company's 50th anniversary. In designing the B & W replica, engineers specified these safety modifications:

The aircraft was licensed by the FAA for experimental and exhibition use, within glide range of water. It was rolled out May 23, 1966.
