05/31/2011. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Produced in 2003 as an EC135 T2, this aircraft was registered to the Bundesgrenzschutz (Federal Border Patrol) on November 4, 2003. On May 5, 2004, the aircraft was transferred to the Polizeihubschrauberstaffel Berlin (PHuSt BE, police helicopter squadron Berlin), and jointly owned and operated by the Bundespolizei (Federal Police) of the states Berlin and Brandenburg. It is since based at Ahrensfelde, Brandenburg, seat of the Bundespolizei-Fliegerstaffel Ost (Federal Police Squadron East).
On March 14, 2006 the aircraft returned to service after Eurocopter Germany at Donauwörth had replaced the original two Arrius 2B1A engines by higher gear Arrius 2B2 engines, the aircraft wasredesignated EC135 T2+ (also known as EC135 T2i). The standard Bundesgrenzschutz green livery had been resprayed in the pictured blue with silver lining and it was also retrofitted with special mission equipment for a wide range of operations, like observation, traffic control, search, security, and protection.
With the additional tactical equipment, controlled via a workstation, the aircraft performs aerial survey, video recording, thermal imaging, cartography image acquisition, and police tactical TV relay. The box under the fuselage is housing the HELLAS obstacle warning system that was specifically developed for use on-board helicopters."
