Between 1936 and 1938 he joined Eastern Airlines, becoming the youngest commercial pilot in the nation.

In 1938 Howard became the first flyer to outside loop a light plane, and he was the first and only pilot to accomplish an inverted ribbon pickup hands off; he held numerous championships for precision aerobatic flying.

Howard had numerous civic and club affiliations to community groups both as member and officer. He also received numerous decorations and awards. Bevo was killed in a crash with his Jungmeister (N15696 c/n 1) at an air show in Greenville, North Carolina on October 17, 1971."
