Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "In 1937/38, Professor Focke designed an autogiro based on the experience gained during the construction of the de la Cierva C. 30, Focke-Wulf had built forty C. 30s under license. The Fw 186 was intended as a competitor to the Fieseler Storch (Stork). Only one prototype, registered D-ISTQ, was built, equipped with a 240 hp Argus As 10 C engine. Nothing is known about the aircraft's performance; however, it must not have been as good as that of the Fieseler Storch, since the Fw 186 was rejected and the Fi 156 went into series production."
