02/15/2007. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This was the 515th DC-6/DC-7 built and was delivered to Western Air Lines of Los Angeles, California, on October 6, 1954 registered N91310. It was sold to the Los Angeles Dodgers major league baseball team on February 28, 1961 and reregistered N1R; it was reregistered N180R on December 6, 1961. The Dodgers sold it to a broker on October 11, 1963 and they sold it to Taxadar (Lineas Aereos Taxader SA) of Santander, Colombia on December 16, 1963 registered HK-1029. It returned to the USA in 1965 and passed through two leasing companies until sold to Spantax (Sapantax SA Transportes Aereos) of Madrid, Spain, on August 20, 1965 and registered EC-BBK. In April 1968, this aircraft was modified by SABENA's Engineering Department by installing a cargo-loading swing-tail and was given the unofficial designation DC-6BF(ST). In 1975, it passed thru two leasing companies and was reregistered N434TA and then leased to Zantop International Airlines of Inkster, Michigan, USA, beginning in September 1978. It was withdrawn from use and stored at Willow Run Airport, Michigan until sold to Northern Air Cargo of Anchorage, Alaska, in March 1987. As of this date, the aircraft is still registered to this company, although seen stored from 2004 on." |
