Curtiss 8 HS-2L

05/31/2010. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "The reconstruction of this aircraft began in September 1975 and parts of three HS-2Ls (including G-CAAC, and G-CADS) were used, and among newly constructed parts was a new hull. The aircraft was ready for display by June 1986.

The original G-CAAC c/n 2901-H.2 was produced by Curtiss for the USN under serial A-1876, and was one of the aircraft that were operated by the USN on anti-submarine missions from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, during WW I.

After the war it was donated to Canada where it performed the first ever Canadian 'bush flight' in 1919, before it was registered as G-CAAC on June 2, 1920. Subsequently it was operated by the St. Maurice Fire Protective Association till September 2, 1922, when it crashed into Foss Lake, some 20 mls (32 km) north of Fauquier, Ontario."
