The Avenger was designed by Grumman as the TBF-1. Eastern Aircraft Division of General Motors was contracted to assist Grumman with the series production. From the TBF-3 on Grumman stopped the series production to concentrate on the F6F Hellcat, transferring all production to Eastern. Previous identities of G-BTDP are: US Navy BuNo. 53319, N3966A.
