As part of the 50th Pursuit Group the squadron was assigned to the Provisional Interceptor Command Alaska on January 2, 1942. Reassigned to the 28th Composite Group on February 2, 1942, and redesignated 11th Fighter Squadron on May 15, 1942, the squadron engaged Japanese forces during the invasion of the Aleutians and the Battle of Dutch Harbor in June 1942.

11th FS & 343 FG emblems

Thereafter the P-40s received their nose markings, variants on the Aleutian Tiger emblem designed by an Airplane Maintenance Technician of the 11th FS, Staff Sergeant Edward Lange. September 11, 1942, the squadron was assigned to the 343rd Fighter Group, which also used an emblem variant of the Aleutian Tiger. The 11th FS was deactivated on August 15, 1946."
