Douglas DC-4 C-54B Skymaster

03/31/2011. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This DC-4 was delivered to the USAAF on January 23, 1945 as a C-54B-1-DC Skymaster, s/n 42-72433. It was declared surplus after WW II ended and was sold to the Chinese airline CNAC (China National Aviation Corp.) of Shanghai in 1946 initially registered XT-T-04 but subsequently reregistered XT-104. When the Communists took over China in 1949, it was acquired by CAT (Civil Air Transport) of Taipei, Taiwan and registered N8345C.

In February 1953, it was leased to TALOA (Transocean Air Lines) of Los Angeles, California, USA from February 1953 to 1955 when it was sold to LAB (Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano) of Cochabamba, Bolivia on March 28, 1955.

It returned to the USA in 1961 when bought by the aircraft lessor Boreas Corporation of New York, New York, registered N538G and leased to Miami Airlines of Greensboro, North Carolina. On June 1, 1962 it was leased to the Dutch airline Martin's Luchtvervoer Maatschappij NV (operating as Martin's Air Charter and renamed Martinair Holland in 1966) and registered PH-MAE, nine months later, March 6, 1963, Martin's Air Charter bought the aircraft.

It was sold to the German airline Transportflug on February 2, 1967 registered D-ADAC and after the company went out of business in 1969, it was sold to Sodemac in the Belgian Congo (renamed Zaire in 1971) on October 28, 1970 and registered 9Q-CTD. In 1971, it was transferred to the Zaire AF until withdrawn from use and stored in 1981. The aircraft was stripped for parts and left derelict."

05/15/2006. Remarks by Alfred Damen: "The venerable C-54 used by Martins Air Charter (now Martinair) from about 1964 until February 1967. I took this photo just before the plane was transferred to Transportflug of Germany."
