North American NA-108 TB-25N Mitchell

10/31/2008. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Built as B-25J-5-NC, USAAF s/n 43-27868, this aircraft was delivered to the USAAF on April 26, 1944. After serving with 3rd AF units in South Carolina for 21 months, the aircraft was stored South Plains, near Lubbock, Texas in February 1946, being moved to Pyote AAF, near Monahans Texas in July 1947.

In July 1949, 43-27868 became a ground instructional airframe at Shepard AFB, Texas, till it was flown to Birmingham, Alabama in April 1956, were Hayes Aircraft converted it into a TB-25N. In June it started training sorties at Laredo AFB, Texas for two years, were after it was stored again in September 1958, this time at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona.

43-27868 was sold to Fogle Aircraft of Tucson, Arizona on December 11, 1959, two months later it was sold to Dothan Aviation of Dothan, Alabama, who had it registered as N9077Z in March 1960. The aircraft was used for aerial spraying of insects for 15 years. In October 1975, the aircraft was sold to John Stokes of San Marcos, Texas.

In September 1977 the aircraft was sold to three men from the San Antonia, Texas area, Charles Becker, Jack Jones, and Charles Skipper. These persons became members of the Confederate Air Force (CAF) and the aircraft was sold to the CAF in July 1979. On September 10, 1991 the aircraft was reregistered to the CAF American Airpower Heritage Museum in Midland, Texas as N25YR."
