Grumman G-15 J2F-6 Duck

01/31/2012. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "The J2F-6 was the final version of the Duck-series, and Grumman subcontracted the production to Columbia Aircraft Corporation at Valley Stream, New York, USA. The pictured aircraft was built in 1942 under the USN BuNo. 33594. In 1959 it was sold to Wallace B. Pankratz of Brawley, California and was registered N1273N. In 1975 it was acquired by the San Diego Aerospace Museum, San Diego, and reportedly was lent to Kermit A. Weeks at Polk City, Florida between 1995 and 2000.

Tom Friedkin of Cinema Air at Carlsbad, California bought the aircraft in 2000, and on June 21 it was registered to the Chino Warbirds Inc. as N5SF. The following month the aircraft was trucked from San Diego to Chino for restoration to airworthiness, and the first flight after restoration was made on March 18, 2002. It is finished in the markings of Marine Scouting Squadrons VMS-3 based at St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, ca. 1940-1941, as indicated by the Neutrality Patrol Stars on fuselage and wings."
