01/22/2007. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This aircraft came off the assembly line on July 28, 1954 and was registered N8426H by Convair before delivery to the USAF on October 26, 1954 as VC-131D 54-2809. It was withdrawn from service in June 1975 and placed in storage at the Military Aircraft Storage and Disposition Center (MASDC) at Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, Arizona. It was purchased by Hayes International Corp., an Alabama maintenance contractor, on February 12, 1976 and registered N6288V. It was later sold to Classic Wings Corp who re-registered it N131CW. The final sale was to The American Airpower Heritage Museum of Midland, Texas, on November 1, 2001. The museum is affiliated with the Commemorative Air Force (CAF, former Confederate Air Force) and it's hanger is used for maintenance of the CAF's inventory." |
