Stearman A75N1 PT-17 Kaydet

05/31/2008. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "This PT-17 was produced in 1941 for the USAAF with s/n 41-1053, struck off charge it came on the civil registry as NC38998.

On August 17, 2003, while flown by owner Joe Vance, N38998 collided with trees after an apparent engine malfunction while maneuvering in the vicinity of Tuckasegee, North Carolina, some 17 mls (27 km) east of Franklin Macon County Airport where the flight had originated 48 minutes earlier. The pilot was killed instantly and his passenger died two weeks later. The aircraft was extensively damaged by the impact and post-crash fire.

The aircraft was sold to Ann Vance of Jonesboro, Georgia, on October 22, 2003, while it was registered to John Roethlisberger of Beaver, Pennsylvania, as N1029P on November 11, 2005. The airworthiness of the aircraft is unknown."
