10/31/2009. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "One of 225 aircraft produced for the USN as a HSS-2 Sea King, BuNo. 149724. The type was powered by two 1,250 shp General Electric T58-GE-8 turboshafts, and was used for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions; in 1962 redesignated SH-3A.
It was converted to an SH-3G utility helicopter with the ASW-gear removed and the floor strengthened. Circa 1980 it was further converted to SH-3H with new ASW and missile defense equipment: MAD (magnetic anomaly detection), ESM (Electronic Support Measures), dipping sonar, sonobuoys, radar.
Eventually it was converted to the UH-3H utility version and last served with USN Squadron 'Fleet Angels' HC-2 Detachment 1 in Italy, before it was struck off charge on November 7, 2005. It came on the civil registry on January 16, 2008, and is operated by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department."
