Hughes 369A OH-6B Cayuse

07/31/2018. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Under the Hughes designation 369A and the military serial 68-17358, this helicopter was produced for the US Army as an OH-6A in November 1969. In 1982 it was converted to an EH-6B for SIGINT (Signal Intelligence) and other electronic surveillance activities with the Special Forces. The 317 shp Allison T63-A-5A engine was replaced by a 400 shp 250-C20 engine. Subsequently it became one of 23 MH-6B attack conversions for the Special Forces, fitted with external weapons mountings for two 0.30 in (7.62 mm) miniguns, FLIR (Forward Looking Infra-Red) sensor, etc. It was assigned to the 45th Infantry Brigade of the US Army National Guard in Oklahoma.

Struck off charge, it was registered to the US Department of Homeland Security as N5187Y on May 13, 1996, and was assigned to the US Border Patrol Air Operations, El Paso, Texas, its base was Alpine. On August 1, 2011, N5187Y was registered to the USDA/APHIS/WS (US Department of Agriculture, Animal Plant Health Inspection Services, Wildlife Services) at Cedar City, Utah.

Based at Alpine, N5187Y was accompanied by a second Cayuse, N6639W. This was also built for the US Army as a 369A OH-6A, serial 66-17811, c/n 380362. Completed in March 1968, it was assigned to the 120th Aviation Company Razorbacks from May 1968 to January 1970. After a brief assignment to the 165th Transportation Company (Aircraft Direct Support), it served with the A Troop, 7th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment Ruthless Riders, from April 1970 to February 1972, sustaining combat damage by small arms fire in Laos on May 3, 1970.

Struck off charge, 66-17811 came on the civil registry as N6639W on April 9, 1992, registrant was the US Department of Homeland Security. It was also assigned to the US Border Patrol Air Operations, El Paso, and based at Alpine. On April 19, 2011, it was reregistered to the US Customs And Border Protection at Washington, D.C. Next it was registered to Bruce Stratton of Montecito, California on August 29, 2012, Stratton had it reregistered to N5QZ on February 25, 2013. Since January 23, 2018, the helicopter is registered to Mac-V Aviation of Central Point, Oregon."
