Boeing AH-64D Apache Longbow

01/31/2013. Remarks by Doug Duncan: "This helicopter was built by McDonnell Douglas in 1986 as an AH-64A (s/n 86-8986 c/n PV356), but was converted by Boeing Defense, Space, and Security in 2004 to an AH-64D (s/n 04-05455 c/n PVD455).

The main improvement over the AH-64A variant is usually a radome installed over the main rotor, which houses the AN/APG-78 Longbow millimeter-wave Fire Control Radar (FCR) target acquisition system and the Radar Frequency Interferometer (RFI). It would appear the radome has been removed from this ship.

The Apache helicopter was the main character in the 1990 movie Firebirds, and I can't see one of these aircraft without thinking of the movie. It's a lot of fun and you get to see these machines being put through their paces."
