North American NA-91 P-51 Mustang

11/15/2022. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "This basic P-51, North American production designation 91, was built under the USAAF serial 41-37416 for a British Lend-Lease contract. Intended for the RAF as a Mustang Mk.I, serial FD514, this aircraft was not delivered, but retained by the USAAF.

Pictured on a test flight from Inglewood, California, in October 1942, the aircraft was ferried to Wayne County Airport, Detroit, Michigan on November 27, and then to Newark, New Jersey on December 5, where it was embarked and shipped to the UK. February 1, 1943, it was 1942 assigned to the 8th AF in England, the next month it was transferred to Oran in Algeria where it was assigned to the 111th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron of the 12th AF. October 8, 1944 it was condemned in Italy and subsequently salvaged."
