03/31/2012. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "The photo above and this photo of the factory fresh B-17G-45-BO were taken over the Puget Sound before delivery to the USAAF. It was assigned to the 401st Bomb Squadron, 91st Bomb Group at Bassingbourne, UK. On a mission to Brunswick, Germany, March 29, 1944, it was attacked by a Luftwaffe night fighter and crashed near Neuenkirchen, some 35 mls (56 km) south of Hamburg. Five crew were killed, four became prisoners of war."
