01/31/2010. On 18 June 1928, the USAAC placed a contract with Curtiss for one prototype of the XP-10 single-seat fighter powered by a 600 hp V-1570-17 Conqueror engine. Of mixed construction with fabric-covered steel-tube fuselage and plywood-covered wooden wings, the XP-10 placed emphasis on aerodynamic cleanliness and utilized wing skin radiators and a gulled upper wing that was shoulder mounted to increase pilot visibility. Delivered in August 1928, the XP-10 was tested until October 1930, but continuous leaking problems with the cooling system prevented further development.
