03/31/2013. The USN acquired three civil CH-400 "Skyrocket" light transports, the first was designated XRE-1 (BuNo A-8938) and was used for radio research at NAS Anacostia, Washington, D.C. The second was designated XRE-2 (BuNo 9207), while the third was designated XRE-3 (BuNo 9341). The last was assigned to the USMC in 1933 and served VJ-6M and VMJ-l at Quantico through 1938. It operated with an X prefix from 1935 on, hence the photo above was taken between 1933 and 1935.
