Bristol 105 Bulldog Mk.II

07/31/2023. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "On October 25, 1929, a Bulldog Mk.II (c/n 7358) fitted with a 440 hp Bristol Jupiter VIIF nine-cylinder air-cooled radial engine, was shipped to the USA for evaluation at NAS Anacostia, Washington, D.C., as a dive-bomber. The aircraft was delivered in November and allotted the serial A-8485 it underwent testing. During a terminal velocity dive an aileron failed and the Bulldog was wrecked, the pilot, Lt. Cuddihy, being killed.

After static tests on a similar wing by Bristol at Filton in the UK, a modification was introduced and a replacement Bulldog Mk.II (c/n 7398), was dispatched to the USN on February 24, 1930. Serialed A-8607 this was flown in comparative tests at NAS Anacostia."
