03/31/2008. William "Bill" Warwick worked for Northrop for 36 years. He designed and constructed the Tiny Champ in spare time and it was flown for the first time on May 1, 1960, after 18 months of work, at the cost of $1,200. An unusual feature was the conversion into an open-cockpit parasol monoplane by removal of the doors and rear cabin fairing. It was awarded the prize for outstanding design at the 1960 Fly-In of the EAA. |
