North American NA-91 P-51-1 Mustang

05/31/2008. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Using Defense Aid Funds, the USAAF ordered 150 NA-91 P-51s for supply to the RAF as Mustang Mk.IAs. Otherwise similar to the Mustang Mk.I, they were fitted with four 0.787 in (20 mm) cannons in the wing.

However, 57 were retained for service with the USAAF and fitted with two K-24 cameras in the fuselage, they were used as armed tactical reconnaissance aircraft. Tentatively designated F-6As, they were finally called P-51-1s.

The pictured example had an experimental black-and-white dazzle or splinter camouflage applied, one of the oblique cameras is mounted in the blister at rear of cockpit."
