Remarks by Jack McKillop: "The three VC-9Cs (s/n 73-1681, 73-1682, 73-1683, c/n 47668, 47670, 47671) were medium range VIP transport versions of the DC-9-32 for the USAF and powered by two 14,500 lb (6,75kg) st Pratt & Whitney JT8D-9A turbofan engines. This aircraft was delivered on May 2, 1975 and initially issued to the Military Airlift Command's 99th Airlift Squadron, 89th Military Airlift Wing at Andrews AFB, Maryland. The VC-9C was redesignated C-9C in 1977.

During 1995/1996, this aircraft were upgraded by E-Systems with UHF SATCOM, INMARSAT, Verizon AirFone Service, telecommunications computers and secure fax. After the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, inflight TV and INMARSAT Swift 64 (64 Kbps ISDN) were added by L-3Com (formerly E-Systems).

In 2002, this aircraft was placed in storage at the AMARC. In 2003, the Air Force Reserve's 73d Airlift Squadron of the 932d Airlift Wing at Scott AFB, Belleville, Illinois was tasked with the transportation of distinguished visitors and they were issued all three of the C-9Cs in 2005."
