Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This aircraft was built as a Model 953 Vanguard, made its first flight on November 29, 1961 and was delivered to British European Airways (BEA) on December 13, 1961 registered G-APEP and named 'Superb'. In March 1971, it was converted to a Model 953C Merchantman cargo aircraft and was operated by BEA's Cargo Division. BEA merged with British Overseas Airlines (BOAC) on April 1, 1974 to form British Airways. It was sold to Air Bridge Carriers on November 8, 1979 and this company was renamed Hunting Cargo Airlines on August 15, 1992. It was donated to Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, Surrey, England in October 1996." |
