08/15/2008. The RAAF acquired two DHC-3 Otters, s/n A100-390 and
A100-392 (c/n 392) in 1960. Produced by DHC in Canada, the aircraft were delivered to Australia as kits in October 1960 and assembled by the de Havilland Australia company at Bankstown, New South Wales.

Both served with the No. 1 Air Trails Unit from 1961 to 1967, when they were transferred to the Weapons Research Establishment at Woomera, South Australia. Later that year the air operations at Woomera were privatized and the aircraft were sold to Short Bros, A100-390 was registered as VH-UPL on September 29, and A100-392 as VH-UPM on October 16.

Deregistered on August 25, 1980, both were shipped to Canada were they were registered as C-GSYR and C-FQOR respectively. Two years later both registration were cancelled, the former on July 14, 1982 (its fate is unknown), while the latter was cancelled on June 2, 1982; it was exported to the USA on April 12, 1984, where it was registered as N1018B, and still is as of this day.
