11/15/2014. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Ray Stits built this aircraft in 1957 as a test bed to investigate the minimum power needed to keep an aircraft in the air. He tested various small engines in various configurations, including lawnmower, chainsaw and outboard engines. These configurations showed engineering and safety problems that homebuilder would experience. Engines tested included:

2.5 hp Continental one-cylinder two-cycle engine
4 hp Continental one-cylinder four-cycle engine
3.5 hp two cycle engine with belt reduction
7.5 hp Homelite one-cylinder two-cycle chainsaw engine
9 hp Disston two-cylinder two-cycle chain saw engine
9 hp Disston inverted two-cylinder two-cycle chain saw engine
25 hp Evinrude two-cylinder two-cycle outboard boat engine
25 hp Evinrude inverted two-cylinder two-cycle outboard boat engine

In these configurations the aircraft was permitted to fly at a level of some 50 ft (15 m). Eventually the aircraft was donated to the EAA and subsequently reregistered as N45652."
