Douglas DC-4 C-54B Skymaster

02/28/2015. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Built at Santa Monica as a C-54B-5-DO, this aircraft was delivered to the USAAF on July 12, 1944, serialed 43-17140. The following year it was purchased by American Airlines, registered NC90403 and named Flagship Phoenix. Four years later it was sold to the Spanish airline Iberia, registered EC-AEO it was allotted the fleet number 115. On November 5, 1964, the aircraft was transferred to the UK and subsequently converted into an ATL-98 Carvair by Aviation Traders Ltd., it was first flown in its new configuration on March 12, 1965.

Iberia sold the Carvair to Aviaco of Spain, the initially reserved registration EC-AXY was not taken up, and the aircraft was ferried to Spain under the temporarily registration EC-WZA. On March 26, 1965 the aircraft was handed over to Aviaco and reregistered EC-AZA in the following April, only three years later Aviaco withdrew the aircraft from service. Subsequently it was leased to the operator Dominicana of the Dominican Republic and registered there as HI-175, Dominicana purchased the aircraft in May 1969. On January 12, 1974, the aircraft was stored at Santo Domingo and broken up in November 1978. However, the fuselage was transported to the El Embajador Hotel in Santo Doming in January 1979 and converted in to a restaurant. In February 1984 it was converted into a night club…
