02/28/2008. Produced under the USAAF s/n 42-24338, this aircraft was
delivered to the RCAF as a Dakota Mk.III, s/n 661, on September 16,
1943. In April 1969 it was sold to the British Ministry of Defense for
use by the Royal Aircraft Establishment. Assumed to be the former
KG661, it was serialed as such, it took till July 1979 before the
error was discovered and corrected with a new serial, ZA947.
In 1990 the aircraft had a serious mishap when inadvertent the landing
gear was raised on the ground with the engines running, repairs
included the fitting of a new wing, engine and propeller. In March
1993 it was transferred to the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
