North American P-51 Mustang

Remarks by Phil Juvet: "This is one of many Mustangs that were repaired at Torrance Airport during those days. The repair facility was a WW II USAAC/USAAF nose hanger which was open on one side and the tails of large planes stuck out the side.

In the 1990s the City of Torrance decided that the airport should be a money making proposition. All the old hangers and buildings from WW II were torn down which forced the small parts and repair businesses out. A large piece of the airport property was leased to Robinson Helicopter for a plant. Up went the fences and security gates. No more tire kicking. You could not even walk into the airport without clearance. In 1997 I worked on a P-40B project at the airport and was granted a gate pass."
