12/25/2006. Remarks by Bernhard Klein: "Photo shows the first 6 of 10 F.K.51s delivered to the Netherlands AAS, painted dark brown, lined up at at the military airport Soesterberg. A second order for 16, numbered 11 thru 25, were painted light blue. The third order for 29, numbered 400 thru 428, again were painted dark brown.

NOTE: In 1954 the Dutch government agreed to the stationing, with a special clause, of a special USAF fighter squadron to augment air defense. The special clause stipulated that any USAFE unit stationed at Soesterberg would be fully under Dutch command, which the USA agreed to. The USAFE forces operated from a part of Soesterberg Air Base which was named Camp New Amsterdam, in honor of the first Dutch settlement in America, Nieuw Amsterdam, later renamed New York City.
Soesterberg Air Base is still operational today, home of 298 Squadron with their Chinooks and 300 Squadron with their Cougars and Alouettes."
