06/18/2007. Zaklady Mechaniczne E. Plage i T. Laskiewicz (E. Plage & T. Laskiewicz Mechanical Works) at Lublin became the first Polish aerospace manufacturer when it established an Aviation Division in 1920. First producing aircraft under license, design of original models started late 1926 when Jerzy S. Rudlicki was appointed as a Chief Designer. The designs are commonly known as Lublin models.

The two-seat R-XIII became the most successful of his creations, a total of 273 were built at Lublin. The R-XIIID light liaison/observation aircraft was the most numerous version with 95 examples built; the first flew in February 1933 and the last was delivered to the Polish AF on March 2, 1935. Also a number of earlier R-XIII models were modified to R-XIIID standards.

E. Plage & T. Laskiewicz went into liquidation in September 1935, but was quickly reformed by the government into the state-controlled Lubelska Wytwórnia Samolotów (Lublin Aircraft Factory). With the start of the WW II hostilities in Poland in September 1939 the company ceased operations.
