01/31/2009. Pictured at its first flight, the XP-1 is a maritime patrol aircraft intended to replace the Lockheed P-3C Orion in service with the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force. The flight testing is conducted by the Technical Research and Development Institute of the Japanese MoD. The second of four prototypes flew on June 19, 2008.
