08/31/2007. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This aircraft was delivered to Transcontinental and Western Airlines (TWA) on January 30, 1946 with fleet number 509. On January 1, 1949, the US government deleted the second alpha character from the registration number and the aircraft became N86509. A second change came on May 17, 1950 when the company changed their name from Transcontinental and Western Airlines to Trans World Airlines retaining the initials TWA.

This Connie was damaged at LaGuardia Airport, New York, New York, on February 23, 1955 when it skidded sideways, slid off the runway and over a drainage ditch. Repaired, the aircraft re-entered service on June 27, 1955 but it struck an automobile with its propeller at Denver, Colorado, on March 11,1956. This was also repaired and the aircraft returned to service until it was placed in storage in mid-1961. It was sold to Nevada Airmotive on March 31, 1962 and stored at Las Vegas, Nevada, until it was scrapped in 1964."
