Curtiss 71E SOC-3 Seagull

10/15/2006. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This SOC-3 was assigned to Observation Squadron One (VO-1) in the battleship USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) between February and November 1938. It later served in the battleships USS Tennessee (BB-43) and Oklahoma (BB-37) and the light cruisers USS Honolulu (CL-48) and Savannah (CL-42).

The vertical and horizontal tail surfaces of the nine SOC-3s of VO-1 were painted insignia red until 1941. VO-1 was assigned to Battleship Division One (BatDiv-1) consisting of the battleships USS Arizona (BB-39), Nevada (BB-36) and Pennsylvania."
