Hawker Siddeley Gnat T.Mk.1

04/30/2006. Remarks by Malcolm Lowe: "In November 2005 the aircraft (former RAF XR537) had not flown for some time, but a recent change of ownership had resulted in the aircraft being refurbished for its return to flying condition. At the time of the photo the aircraft was having ground runs to check-out its Bristol Siddeley Orpheus jet engine. The Gnat was the RAF's chief advanced trainer in the 1960s, up to being replaced by the BAe Hawk. However, the type was also flown by the world-famous Red Arrows aerobatic team, and XR537 is painted in a colour scheme similar to that used by the Red Arrows."
