Cirrus SJX The-Jet

12/31/2023. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Development of Cirrus' first private jet began in 2000. On November 4, 2005, at the AOPA Expo in Tampa, Florida, Cirrus revealed the light 'personal' jet was intended for single-pilot operation. In early 2006 a mockup was under construction, which was unveiled as The-Jet on June 28, 2007.

Registered as Model SJX The-Jet N280CJ, the here pictured proof of concept prototype, was first flown July 3, 2008. Subsequently the type was renamed SJ50 Vision, it was renamed Vision SF50 in March 2009. However, due to internal changes and the worldwide financial crisis in 2008, caused in the autumn of 2009 Cirrus' decision to slow down the SFS0 program and the construction of a second prototype/test aircraft then was postponed. The takeover of Cirrus by CAIGA (China Aviation Industry General Aircraft) in 2012 brought funding to continue the SF50 program. Construction of three so called production conforming prototypes was started in 2013.

These had aerodynamic improvements were made to the wing roots, the V-tail had reduced sweep and was slightly moved aft, the fuselage was slightly wider with different shaped windows all around, the nose was sharper and slightly longer, the shape of the engine housing was changed, while the right hand cabin door had been deleted.

The three Vision SF50 prototypes made their first flight in 2014, N250CV c/n 0002 on March 24, N251CV c/n 0003 on November 25, and N252CV c/n 0004 on December 20, respectively. The first production Vision SF50 (N253CV c/n 0005) was flown on May 5, 2016, the Vision SF50 Type Certificate was issued on October 30, 2016, while the first customer delivery was made on December 19, 2016. Recently, October 16, 2023, Cirrus revealed that 500 Vision SF50 aircraft had been delivered."
