Announced as the "World's Greatest Air Race for MacRobertson Trophy" this event started in London, England, on October 20, 1934. C.J. "Jimmy" Melrose flew the de Havilland D.H.80A Puss Moth (VH-UQO c/n 2089) named "My Hildegard" to Melbourne in 256 hours and finished second in the handicap section. The aircraft was lost during WW II while registered in the UK as
G-AEEB.

For the TV-film "The Great Air Race" the pictured Leopard Moth was painted in the 1934 markings of the Push Moth. Filming took place at Point Cook Airfield, Victoria, in 1991 and involved other types as well: AT-6 (as Gee Bee QED), Avro Anson (as Boeing 247), Douglas DC-3 (as DC-2), D.H.88 Comet, D.H.82 Tiger Moth and a Stearman.
