05/31/2008. The 269 was designed by Hughes Aircraft Division and the two-seat prototype flew for the first time on October 2, 1956. On July 13, 1983, Hughes announced the transfer of the 269 series production to Schweizer, and production started in November 1983, two month before Hughes became a division of McDonnell Douglas on January 6, 1984, while Schweizer acquired the rights for the 269 series on November 21, 1986.

From the 269B version on, that appeared back in 1963, that and subsequent versions had a 269 engineering designation and have been marketed as Model 200, 300 and 330 versions, hence the VH-LTO, produced in 2005, is officially registered as a 269C1 and carries the marketing designation 300CB on the fuselage, as does the 2004 produced VH-RSI.
