Boeing 345 B-29A Superfortress

09/15/2006. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This B-29A-30-BN was built at the Renton plant, Washington, USA, which had been built by the US Navy for the construction of the Boeing Model 344 (q.v.) PBB-1 Sea Ranger. When the contract for the PBB-1 was cancelled, the plant was used to build B-29As.

The major difference between the B-29 and B-29A was four 50 caliber (12,7 mm) machine guns in the upper forward turret of the B-29A. There was also significant differences in the wing and engine nacelles in the B-29A. A total of 1,119 B-29As were built."
