02/28/2007. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This was the 542nd DC-6/DC-7 built and was delivered to the USAF as a C-118A-DO on January 13, 1953. It was issued to the 1611th Air Transport Wing, Atlantic Division, Military Air Transport Command (MATS) and based at McGuire AFB, Wrightstown, New Jersey, USA.
In 1958, MATS was reorganized and the Atlantic Division became the Eastern Transport Air Force (EASTAF). This was followed on January 1, 1966 with another reorganization with MATS becoming the Military Airlift Command (MAC), EASTAF becoming the Twenty-First Air Force and the 1611th Air Transport Wing replaced by the 438th Military Airlift Wing.
At an unknown date, this aircraft was converted to a 368transport, redesignated VC-118A and assigned to the 99th Military Airlift Squadron, 89th Military Airlift Wing, MAC and based at Andrews AFB, Camp Springs, Maryland. On April 22, 1975, this Liftmaster was transferred to the MASDC) and placed in storage; it had 26,134.7 hours on the airframe.
It was offered for sale on September 27, 1978, was purchased by Time Aviation Services of Valencia, California, on February 5, 1979 and registered N9059J. In 1980, it was placed in storage by Allied Aircraft Sales, located near the MASDC site, and scrapped on January 15, 1983."
