04/30/2007. Remarks by Jack Mckillop: "This Seabat was ordered as an HSS-1 under the old Navy designation system and was delivered in October 1958. This was the antisubmarine warfare (ASW) version of the S-58 and was redesignated SH-34J in the revised designation system introduced in 1962.

This aircraft saw service with Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron Four (HS-4), HS-6 and Helicopter Utility Squadron One (HU-1) before being stripped of its ASW equipment and being redesignated as a UH-34J. It was then assigned to NAS New York, New York, in 1963 and was flown by Naval Reservists from several units there.

It later became part of the station Sea Air Rescue (SAR) flights at NAS North Island, California; NAS Keflavik, Iceland; MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina; and finally NAS Oceana, Virginia, before being retired from service in April 1971. It is shown in the markings of the Naval and Marine Reserves at NAS/JRB Willow Grove."
