09/30/2007. Remarks by Jack Mckillop:
"This aircraft was a new bomber design and was originally
equipped with 600 hp Curtiss liquid-cooled engines. It made its first
flight on November 5, 1931. Only one Model 214 was built, a second
aircraft, the Model 215, was identical except for being equipped with
575 hp Pratt & Whitney R-1860-13 radial engines. After testing at the
Boeing plant in Seattle, Washington, and at Wright Field, Dayton,
Ohio, this aircraft was re-engined with 575 hp Pratt & Whitney
R-1830-11 Hornet supercharged radial engines. The aircraft is shown
in the markings of the Wright Field Depot. |
