09/30/2007. Remarks by Jack Mckillop: "In 1925, the USN's Bureau of Aeronautics (BuAer) designed a twin-engine, three-crew multipurpose aircraft capable of level bombing, torpedo bombing and patrol roles that could operate with a conventional landing gear or from floats. In May of that year, the Naval Aircraft Factory (NAF) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, was awarded a US$130,000 (US$1,525,472 in 2007 dollars) order to build a prototype of the aircraft with a delivery date of early 1927. Two months later, Douglas aircraft received an order for three similar aircraft." |
