Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This Model 382U-07J WC-130J-LO, delivered in October 2001, is assigned to the 53d Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, is based at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Mississippi and assigned to the 403d Operations Group, 403d Wing, Twenty Second Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command. Known as the Hurricane Hunters, the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, flies missions into hurricanes and weather systems for research purposes and observation. The WC-130J is flown directly into the hurricane, typically penetrating the hurricane's eye several times per mission at altitudes between 500 and 10,000 feet (152 and 3,048 m)." |
