Canadair CL-90 CF-104 Starfighter

10/15/2006. Remarks by Bill Walker: "This information comes from the book 'Starfighter' by D.L. Bashow: "In the late 1970s the then 441 Squadron Commander Larry Crab reached 1,000 hours on the Starfighter, and decided to paint an aircraft in 441 colours to celebrate. This was very unofficial, and was done on the weekend by volunteers. They started with poster paint, but they did not have enough white paint. They added flour and water to stretch the white paint, and applied it all with brushes. Apparently the flour paint baked on over the next few days, and was very hard to remove. The aircraft was reported to tour NATO bases in Germany, but was grounded by the end of the week to have the unofficial paint removed."
